children of alice produzieren seit 2013 als teil des folklore-tapes-kollektivs amorphe und berauschende klanglandschaften und fassen nun alle ihre werke in einem selbstbetitelten debütalbum zusammen. die band markiert die post-broadcast-Ära von james cargill, den name wählte er als tribut an die verstorbene broadcast-sängerin trish keenan, für die “alice im wunderland” - speziell in der adaption des britischen theaterregisseurs jonathan miller als 1960’er sommeridylle - wegweisende inspiration war. neben cargill gehören der ehemalige broadcast-keyboarder roj stevens und julian house aka the focus group, mitbegründer von ghost box records, zum trio. letzterer veröffentlichte zusammen mit broadcast bereits 2009 das minialbum “broadcast & the focus group investigate witch cults of the radio age”. beide formate erscheinen im mirri board packaging (stabiler, hochglänzender spiegelkarton). die lp enthält neben einem download-code noch eine miniposter.

it is kind of difficult to imagine tv or radio shows accompanied by tracks like “neutroni”, “mr. mysterious”, “fucina diabolica” or “idillio cosmico”, but in 1973 - the year this gem was released - italian tv was often surprising the audience with innovative shows, likely to host music such as fabor’s compositions. listening again to these 14 short compositions is still an extraordinary experience if we consider their impact and influence on contemporary music and on hip labels of our days like ghost box. along with “pape satan”, this is probably the best fabio fabor ever.

cgi records is extremely proud to be presenting the new ep from oakland via-bermuda based artist russell e.l. butler. i m dropping out of life are 4 cuts of essentialist dance music that can provide an ecstatic escape from the drudges of professional life for all who so rightly seek it. as russell himself elaborates, the title has been on my mind a lot, since i almost lost my life in the ghost ship fire and watched as many of my friends lost theirs. i came up with the title several months ago, in fact 2 of the tracks were shopped in a producer s group that johnny (nackt) and chelsea (cherushii) were a part of, both of whom i lost in the fire. this release is about a commitment to life. the life that i refer to dropping out of, is a life where dreams are put on hold, where concessions are made in order to just survive. but that comes at a cost, one that is far too great for me to pay at this point. i wrote this poem, it ll come as an insert with the record.

safer at night returns late january 2017 with the vinyl only release of the deep end , featuring two original curses cuts and remixes from ian blevins and holy ghost! safer at night founder curses launched the label back in 2014 and it has since gone to play host to material from eli esobar, walker & royce, jagerverb and of course the label founder himself. here we see curses re-release his composition the deep end marking the ten-year anniversary of its former releases on institutes in 2007, while enlisting ian blevins and holy ghost! on remix duties and stirring in a new original of his own as well. the original mix of the deep end takes the lead and offers a chance to revisit the decade old curses cut fuelled by wandering bass and lead guitar licks, dropped-tempo crunchy rhythms and murky piano chords all instilled with a gritty new york electro feel. holy ghost! then rework the original with the funk-laden feel via bright chord sequences, elongated delay swells and an amalgamation of 80 s synth leads, hooky bass lines and sporadic vocal lines. on the flip ian blevins offers up his interpretation of in shadows employing stuttering vocal hits, choppy arpeggios and droning bass leads to create an emotive and hypnotic number before curses original mix of in shadows closes on a cinematic vibe with an 80 s sci-fi soundtrack feel to perfectly conclude this vinyl only 10 year celebration.

twins is matt weiner who is also known for his featureless ghost project and of course as the head of the dka records label… his project twins is not limited to one specific style but the dominant characteristic is the synth driven sound… other influences in the mix are various styles of dance music and a healthy dose of arty post-punk… this new mini album “rather not” is the perfect blending of all of this… due to this it is on the one hand a classic minimal elektro record but at the same time a rather modern piece of electronic music… catchy tunes and surprising twists go hand in hand and make up for an authentic and original record… which is more stunning every time you play it!

all naked records hit the ground running with four flaming tracks by artists they hold dear.
the rigologo side features a ghost future track that takes you back to the chicago of 1994, but adds that little something extra. rawmental then pushes through into detroit territory with an epic and infectious synth jam. the techno side, launches with a club ready techno burner from captcha (aka strip steve) and finishes with a nate tone track. an essential debut release.

the last and eighth release in this series opens up with christian wunschs remix of ex machina on the a-side which is all hypnotic bounce, roaring chords, cutting through the irrepressible groove. morbecks remix of ghost town on a2 is an atmospheric but tough interpretation of the original, kicking hard with jackhammered drums, coupled with metal scraping metal sounds and a simplicity that makes it a handy tool to build great tension on the dance-floor. the b-side kicks off with jonas koppss remix of miscellaneous pt. 1 – creatively pairing the heavy rolling 909 drums with a classic four-on-the-floor clap pattern and topped with the eroded drones of the original track. b2 is a re-mastered version of the utterly timeless and epic club hit “1969” by the mastermind christian morgenstern himself.

video for the title track “mango bay” was played for hours over stream by one of the top dota players rtz, achieving legendary meme status over night. “rush” and “rocky bay” are wrapping up the a side carrying faster tech grooves, while still maintaining the organic component (warmth) with bass, chopped vocals and woodwind leads.
b side starts off with “calypso”, one of the earliest x-coast productions - a steady house groove made from layers of keys, trumpet stabs, rich with hats and ghost snares - perfect to get the party started. being the last track, “don’t stop” is a hidden gem of this ep - what seems to be a hawaiian steel guitar classic, quickly transforms into a floor stomper, it’s a house beat reinforced by a classic rolling break, hammond stabs and samples of sterling void & paris brightledge’s “it’s all right”.

2015 saw datassette in generous form, the original offal brought 100 tracks of alleged offcuts. while a rare few actually live up to this self-deprecation, it couldnt be a more misleading title. now, selected offal has been boiled down to a gravy-like substance for a vinyl release by the nice folks at shipwrec. after discussions with the artist, and suggestions from fans, seventeen prime cuts have been selected for the vinyl edition of offal, alongside a few brand new previously unheard nuggets and alternative versions. expect a buffet of delights. smooth electronica, abrasive funk, out-there acid experimentation, chip tune chicanery and everything in between from this chameleon of machine music.

sebastian maschat a.k.a. stoneage kid has been around in the house music scene for about 15 years now: cult stoner house with extra produktionen , drummer in erlend oye s whitest boy alive and numerous other projects. stoneage kid is an hardware / mpc based act, with own vocals and a very distinctive electro pop aesthetique. his first ep on smile for a while creally sounds like captain comatose meeting isolee in some purple haze panic room. you ll find melancholic drum machine jams, some serious synths, lotsa vocoder and a lot of bassline-bumping. phillip lauer delivers a refreshingly cheesy remix with god singing solo and the holy ghost on drums just as expected. hang on to a dream is quite a special tune, written and sung by german indie veteran otto von bismarck. this remix version is really something for intimate connoiseurs of both pop and house music.

primavera may lifts you from ordinary life: the apparition of rain clouds and droplets blur into a soft curtain over the world as the whir of delicate hi-hats glisten in a muted sunlight. imagine a moment where the most inanimate inhabitants of the earth ghost dance before disappearing into nothing. makker s spoken vocals add a crestfallen hue to the vanished. she monotonously recites her regret: -everything is dancing / everything is crying / it can feel so heavy / before it has begun- a denser, yet similarly sorrowful song, before i fall asleep is sculpted around nimble strings and webbed by breathy vocals, remaining slightly suspended, as if levitating just above the verdant ground. halfway through primavera april, the track is transformed by acid showers, a lead synth lifts off to reveal a ravaged landscape, diametrically opposing the previous peace. the ambient acceptance snow closes primavera with the self-fulfilling prophecy of its theme: that snow will fall, and the world will go to sleep. conjuring the surreality of renkas childhood landscapes, for all its reverie, primavera always orients itself toward the responsibilities of the present. there is an acknowledgment that all day dreams must lead back to reality, that all journeys must be fulfilled.

travelling extensively across asia and africa between 1974-1985 to study music, roberto made many field recordings and collected many instruments on his travels which he would then combine with synthesizers and electronics back in italy. big tip!
